The camera sets everything to suit the selected shooting mode. The Quick Control screen will appear. Select the shooting mode. Shooting Tips Use a wide-angle lens and a tripod. When using a zoom lens, use the wide-angle end to obtain a wide night view.
Four shots are taken continuously for each picture, and the resulting image with reduced camera shake is recorded. When you take one picture in this mode, three continuous shots are taken at different exposures. Darker exposure Brighter exposure Standard exposure Page A Locking The Exposure Ae Lock A Locking the ExposureN You can lock the exposure when the area of focus is to be different from the exposure metering area or when you want to take multiple shots at the same exposure setting. After setting the proper flash exposure for the subject, you can recompose put the subject toward the side and shoot.
This feature can also be used with a Canon EX-series Speedlite. This function is called Auto Lighting Optimizer. The default setting is [Standard].
With JPEG images, the correction is done when the image is captured. In Basic Zone modes, [Standard] is set automatically. At low ISO speeds, the noise in the darker parts of the image shadow areas is further reduced. If any of these has already been set, [Multi Shot Noise Reduction] cannot be set.
Flash shooting is not possible. The setting screen closes and the menu will reappear. This [Auto] setting is effective in most cases. Color fringing along subject outlines is another chromatic aberration. Both lens aberrations can be corrected. Check that [Correction data available] is displayed for the attached lens. Page Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction Peripheral illumination correction and chromatic aberration correction cannot be applied to JPEG images already taken.
When using a non-Canon lens, setting the corrections to [Disable] is recommended, even if [Correction data available] is displayed. If you use the magnified view during Live View shooting, the peripheral illumination correction and chromatic aberration correction will not be reflected in the image shown on the screen. To see the resulting effects, take test shots. To customize [Monochrome], see page To make it less sharp, set it toward the E end.
The closer it is to E, the softer the image will look. To make it sharper, set it toward the F end. The closer it is to F, the sharper the image will look. You can create multiple Picture Styles whose parameter settings such as sharpness and contrast are different. Set the parameter. The custom white balance selection screen will appear.
Import the white balance data. This adjustment will have the same effect as using a commercially-available color temperature conversion filter or color compensating filter.
Each color can be corrected to one of nine levels. For normal shooting, sRGB is recommended. Select [Color space]. In such cases, mirror lockup is effective. Mirror lockup is enabled by setting [5: Mirror lockup] to [1: Enable] in the [ Custom Functions C. Page Mirror Lockup to Reduce Camera ShakeN In very bright light such as at the beach or a ski slope on a sunny day, take the picture promptly after mirror lockup.
Do not point the camera toward an intense light source, such as the sun on a sunny day or an intense artificial light source. If you handhold the camera and shoot while viewing the LCD monitor, camera shake can cause blurred images. Using a tripod is recommended. For certain scenes or shooting conditions, the icon displayed may not match the actual scene.
These are called Creative filters. When you shoot with a Creative filter applied, only images applied with a Creative filter will be saved. By adjusting the contrast, you can change the black-and-white effect.
Soft focus Gives the image a soft look. By adjusting the blur, you can change the degree of softness. By adjusting the color tone, you can change the color cast. Miniature effect Creates a diorama effect. You can change where the image is to look sharp. The functions settable on this menu screen only apply during Live View shooting. These functions do not take effect during viewfinder shooting.
The area surrounding the Live View image is masked in black when the following aspect ratios are set: [] [] []. JPEG images will be saved with the set aspect ratio. In Basic Zone modes, metering timer is fixed at 16 sec.
The Live View shooting will stop with any of the following operations. AF methods other than the [Quick mode] use the image sensor to autofocus while displaying the Live View image. Press the shutter button halfway to focus. Aim the AF point over the subject and press the shutter button halfway. When focus is achieved, the AF point will turn green and the beeper will sound.
If focus is not achieved, the area frame will turn orange. It cannot be moved to the edges of the picture. Even when focus has been achieved, pressing the shutter button halfway will focus again.
The image brightness may change during and after the AF operation. Although you can focus the target subject quickly, the Live View image will be interrupted momentarily during the AF operation. The Live View image will turn off, the reflex mirror will go back down, and AF will be executed.
No picture is taken. When focus is achieved, the AF point that achieved focus will turn green This works in all shooting modes. Display the Live View image. The touch shutter does not work with the magnified view. Fn ], autofocusing does not take effect.
Turn the lens focusing ring to focus roughly. Display the magnifying frame. The magnifying frame will appear. You can also tap [ ] on the screen to magnify the image.
Shooting in high temperatures may cause noise and irregular colors in the image. Page Live View Shooting Cautions Shooting Result If you take the picture in magnified view, the exposure may not come out as desired. Return to the normal view before taking the picture. In magnified view, the shutter speed and aperture will be displayed in orange. The movie recording format will be MOV.
If you use a slow-writing card when shooting movies, the movie may not be recorded properly. Page k Shooting Movies Cautions for movie shooting are on pages and If necessary, also read the Live View shooting cautions on pages and Page k Shooting Movies Scene Icons During movie shooting in a Basic Zone mode, an icon representing the scene detected by the camera will be displayed and the shooting will be adapted to that scene. Using manual exposure to shoot movies is for advanced users. The reflex mirror will make a sound, then the image will appear on the LCD monitor.
Page k Shooting Movies Focus and shoot the movie. Page k Shooting Movies Notes on Movie Shooting Do not point the camera toward an intense light source, such as the sun on a sunny day or an intense artificial light source. Doing so may damage the image sensor or the camera's internal components. Note that if you do any of the following while shooting video snapshots, a new album will be created for subsequent video snapshots. Page 3 Shooting Video Snapshots Background Music Music recorded on the memory card must be used only for private enjoyment.
Do not violate the rights of the copyright holder. You can play background music when you play back albums, normal movies, and slide shows on the camera p. To play background music, you must first copy the background music to the card using EOS Utility provided software.

You can change the flash ratio between the external Speedlite and built-in flash to adjust how the shadows look on the subject. Page Custom Wireless Flash Shooting Fully Automatic Shooting with Multiple External Speedlites Multiple Speedlite slave units can be treated as one flash unit or separated into slave groups whose flash ratio can be set.
The basic settings are shown below. By changing the [Firing group] setting, you can shoot with various wireless flash setups with multiple Speedlites. Page Custom Wireless Flash Shooting [1 A:B ] Multiple slave units in multiple groups Divide the slave units into groups A and B and change the flash ratio to obtain the desired lighting effect. By changing the [Firing group] setting, you can shoot with various wireless flash setups of multiple Speedlites complemented with the built-in flash.
